The more THC, the better… A common misunderstanding until a few years ago. Scientists all over the world, including us at CANNA Research, showed that taste and smell are also important factors. The effect of Cannabis use and quality is not determined by THC alone!
Technically, taste and smell of Cannabis are determined by broad range of chemical substances. The unique odor is determined by volatile compounds, also known as essential oils.
Here, we demonstrate two factors that influence the (level of) essential oils in the plants.
Indoor vs. Outdoor
In our laboratory and in the field, we determined fenotypical differences between indoor and outdoor grown plants which are genetically identical. In the figures below, we demonstrate different terpenoid profiles of indoor and outdoor grown varieties.
Mineral fertilizer vs. Organic fertilizer
During BIOCANNA product improvement trials, we tested whether BIOCANNA fertilization changes the essential oil profile, as compared to mineral fertilization programs. In our trials, total terpenoid content was higher in organically grown plants.
